See the biggest model railway in Russia

Margaret Ullrich, our hard working, award winning Public relations person (yes, she won the club's President's Shield award in 2011 for her efforts in publicizing our annual spring open house, and deservedly so) passed on this remarkable video to us.  It's Russia's largest model railway, and it IS Russia!

Nearly every single bit of this enormous nation is modeled in HO scale, squeezed in 800 square meters!  It contains detailed replicas of many of Russia's signature buildings and is home to hundreds of thousands of tiny plastic residents from all walks of life. It has to be seen to believed, and if you got 26 minutes to spare, you can see it by clicking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7I_z6k-MOY

Winnipeg Model Railroad Club members talents shine at TLR convention

WMRC members Neil Carleton, Paul Ullrich and Ian Plett show off their spiffy T-shirts (designed by Paul Ullrich) in front of the Richardson grain elevator in Thunder Bay, Ontario at the TLR's 2015 convention.

Several WMRC members, who are also NMRA members, left a lasting impression on the rest of attendees at the TLR's annual convention in Thunder Bay, Ontario this year.

Ian Plett towed the No. 1 Northern Division's Free-Mo layout to the convention in his own trailer. The layout was set up at the location of the old Thom Thumb Hobby Shop in the Fort William area of town. He was assisted in set-up and operation by Neil Carleton, Dennis Rietze and Michael Leader. It was one of the very few times a modular layout has been set up at a TLR convention, and it was a very popular attraction during the convention's two layout hops on Friday and on Sunday.

WMRC members also won several awards at the convention's annual banquet. Ian Plett, Neil Carleton, and Margaret Ullrich all won modelling awards. Paul Ullrich won "Best in Show" in the photo contest, and he also won the Bob Dew award for his continued and dedicated service to the TLR.

Presenting the honourable mention categories of the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's 60th anniversary special event model contest

WMRC blog editor had the only O gauge entry in the contest. He freelance modelled a 40' boxcar with CN colours and BCR markings in his interpretation of what the merger of CN and BCR might've looked like.

WMRC Public Relations Director Margaret Ullrich had the only structure in the special event contest. She built and weathered a structure from Clever Models with the WMRC logo prominently featured.

WMRC President Larry Leavens submitted his model of a grain hopper with the 60th anniversary logo proudly displayed.

There is no Great Canadian Train Show at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute this year

Margaret Ullrich, the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club's public relations person, has noticed an unusual amount of activity on her events blog, Winnipeg is Better than Chocolate, concerning the WMRC's Great Canadian Train Show. Although the WMRC membership is aware that this show is not taking place, the general public may not be.

The Great Canadian Train show has been cancelled indefinitely. The WMRC has partnered this year with the Manitoba Mega Train Show, which will be held October 19 and 20 at the Canlan Ice Sports Centre, 1871 Ellice Avenue. The show's hours are from 9AM to 5PM both Saturday and Sunday. There is no train show at the Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute this year. The Manitoba Mega Train Show is the only train show that is happening this fall.

This is the official web site of the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club

Make no mistake - this the official site, sanctioned by the board.

Our website used to be at the Sweden Freezer website, which was operated by long term member Bill Taylor. Due to his untimely and unfortunate death, the club needed a new web presence. Our space on the Sweden Freezer website hadn't been updated since the spring of 2013.

At our request,  Phil Mendelshon, the AVR's present webmaster,  has taken all information pertaining to the WMRC off the website and provided a link to our new website.

Now when you Google the "Winnipeg Model Railroad Club" with quote marks, this website shows up first, followed by WMRC webmaster's wife Margaret Ullrich's popular events, blog, Winnipeg is Better than Chocolate.   The CP Rail Manitoba and Minnesota Subdivision, a blog operated by long time WMRC member and Winnipeg Free Press faith columnist John Longhurst, shows up as fifth on the list.
